New Shades, New Smiles at Colonial Villa de Juárez School🌞

High up in the hills of Valle de Guadalupe lies a humble community called Colonial Villa de Juárez, home to many of the vineyard workers who tend the valley below. Most families here speak Indigenous dialects, and while resources are scarce, the spirit of the children is bright and full of hope.

When we first visited the local school, we found it in need of care. The playground and basketball area required repairs, and the children had no shaded place to sit, eat, or play. So, little by little, we began changing that.

Last week, we installed the first set of sun shades, transforming a hot, exposed area into a cool, safe space for the students. They still need at least one more shade to fully cover the play area, but already, the difference is remarkable.

We also brought one of the new wooden tables and benches, and the kids wasted no time making it their own—coloring, laughing, and learning together under their new shade.

Voices from the Volunteers

“I took a tour of where the children eat. They sit on the dirt or stairways and use whatever concrete walls are available as tables.

We can support the person who builds these beautiful wood tables and benches for just $111 USD (2,000 MXN). It’s a win-win for the school and for the local craftsman who so passionately creates them.

We pick up the tables and benches in Maneadero and transport them to the school—no extra cost involved.

The carpenter not only builds the furniture but also teaches local children carpentry skills, while his wife teaches the girls how to sew. It’s incredible to be part of this effort—the difference it delivers to the children is truly unprecedented.”

Building Brighter Futures Together

The school can certainly use more of these multi-functional tables and benches. Each one provides a safe, dignified space for learning and meals—and gives local youth valuable hands-on experience in craftsmanship and creativity.

We’ll be returning on October 17 to continue improvements and deliver more essential items for the school. Our long-term goal is to help them build a small kitchen area, so the children can enjoy proper meals during the day.

What started with a few simple repairs—fixing basketball hooks, painting, and adding shade—is now growing into something much bigger: a place where children feel safe, cared for, and inspired.

Supporting Ongoing Community Outreach Efforts

Our mission continues beyond events and festivals—it lives in the hearts of the children, families, and communities we serve. With your support, Baja Angels of the Sea is helping transform lives in places like Colonial, a small hillside community in Valle de Guadalupe where many local farmers and their families live.

Through your generosity, we’ve been able to:

  • Install new sun shades to protect children from the intense Baja sun.
  • Provide tables and learning spaces for the school’s 80 students.
  • Repair and repaint play areas to create a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Plan the next phase—building a small kitchen to help feed the children daily.

Every contribution helps us bring comfort, dignity, and opportunity to communities that need it most.

👉 Support our Ongoing Mission and help us continue creating brighter futures for children across Baja California.

Together, we are building hope—one child at a time.
