Hilanova | Thrift & Sewing Studio: Empowering Women Through Skill and Purpose

Building Strength Through Skill and Community

Hilanova Thrift & Sewing Studio is part of the Women’s Empowerment Program by Baja Angels of the Sea, a nonprofit initiative that helps women in Baja California rebuild their lives after experiencing hardship or abuse.

Through sewing, creativity, and small business training, women gain the tools and confidence to support themselves and their families.

The Women’s Empowerment Program

The Women’s Empowerment Program provides hands-on workshops, mentorship, and employment opportunities for women seeking stability and growth.

Participants learn sewing, product design, and business basics — transforming their skills into income-generating activities. The program also offers emotional support, community connections, and a safe space where women can heal and thrive.

Sustainable Fashion With a Purpose

Inside Hilanova, nothing goes to waste. Donated textiles and clothing are transformed into new, high-quality pieces offered in our thrift and handmade shop. This creates:

  • affordable fashion for the community
  • sustainable, eco-friendly production
  • funding for materials, equipment, and classes
  • income and opportunity for the women who create these items

Every purchase directly strengthens the Women’s Empowerment Program – helping us expand workshops, add new tools, and support more women each month.

Introducing Our Lavender Pouches — Handmade With Love

One of Hilanova’s newest initiatives is the creation of handmade lavender pouches, filled with locally grown lavender from Primo Tapia farmers.

These beautifully crafted pouches bring a calming scent and make meaningful, sustainable gifts. Every sale directly supports the women who made them – helping fund classes, tools, and the continuation of this life-changing program.

Each pouch is:

🌿 sewn by women rebuilding their lives
🌿 made with donated or upcycled fabrics
🌿 filled with pesticide-free, beautifully fragrant lavender
🌿 a meaningful gift for the holidays or any season

These pouches are now available for pre-order, and every purchase directly supports the women who handcrafted them.
