This week, our team returned to a small hillside school in Colonia, Valle de Guadalupe, where over 80 incredible Indigenous children study and play. Over the past few months, we’ve helped transform this humble school into a safer, brighter place to learn — adding new tables, chairs, and storage sheds so the children no longer have to eat on the ground and can stay protected from the Baja sun. 🌞
Our volunteers also repaired the playground and, on this latest trip, delivered a large supply of food to help the school start a small kitchen that now serves warm meals four days a week. 🍲❤️
The Indigenous Roots Behind Our Mission
These children are part of Mexico’s deeply diverse Indigenous heritage — descendants of pre-Columbian civilizations that have shaped this land for thousands of years. Mexico’s Indigenous peoples include 68 recognized groups and speak more than 364 language variants, with the largest being Nahuatl and Mayan. According to the 2020 census, over 23 million people in Mexico identify as Indigenous, representing nearly one-fifth of the nation’s population.
The primary Indigenous group in La Colonia de Villa de Juárez are from Oaxaca. Some only speak their native language, not Spanish, which often creates barriers to education, communication, and access to essential services.
Despite this strong cultural presence, many Indigenous communities face ongoing challenges such as poverty, limited access to education, and loss of traditional languages. Our convoys help address these gaps by providing essentials — food, school supplies, and emotional support — while respecting and celebrating the beautiful heritage these families carry forward. 🌎💛

Through your generosity, we’ve been able to:
- Install new tables, chairs, and sun shelters so children no longer have to eat or study on the ground.
- Repair and repaint the playground, creating a safe, welcoming space to play and learn.
- Deliver food and essential supplies to help the school launch a small kitchen that now serves warm meals four days a week.
